I am excited to learn more about Social Networking.  I am glad we are starting with the platforms I am most comfortable with.  I have been using Facebook for years, but for personal usage only.  I am curious how it can be incorporated into education.  I have been using a WordPress blog since beginning the EdTech program, each semester I become more confident in my ability to use it.  I have also been using Diigo since starting the MET program.  This summer I started using Twitter.  I am still not as confident as I would like to be about my “tweets” but I think I’m getting the hang of it.

For my professional development I think I need to use a lot more social media.  I am currently working on building a website for my tutoring business.  One critical component missing from my business is a social media presence.  I am not sure which platforms are best or most appropriate.  I find that parents are more comfortable with Facebook and reading blogs.  My students, however, are much more into Twitter and Instagram.

Currently I don’t use any social media to connect with my students or parents.  I text students to remind them of meeting times and assignments.  I use email to communicate with students and parents.  I really hope this course will help me be able to put my skills into action this semester.

My goal this semester is to really understand the multiple types of Social Media and how they can be used for educational purposes.  I want to do more than just learn about these skills … I really want to put them into action!

  1. Hi Kim,
I’m like you – only use Facebook personally so am also excited about the possibilities for education. Have you played around with Pinterest? Many of my students are using it and I just started – it’s really fun and I can see that there could be huge potential there too.
    See you online,
